The various Camino routes through Spain make for splendid walking, either doing sections at a time or taking on entire trails. My wife and I completed the Camino Francés three years ago, and completed the staffwork by continuing that walk to Finisterre and Muxía. The Portuguese Camino is another notable route, and the pages below form the description of our travels along it between August and October 2026.
Day 4 – Azambuja and Porto Muge: From the ridiculous to the sublime
Day 11 – Walking (!) from Quinta da Cortiça to Ansião: a delightful day
Day 12 – Walking again (!). From Ansião to Zambujal: Another good day
Day 18 – Albergaria-a-Velha to Oliveira de Azeméis: Nice to be walking again
Day 24 – Porto (well, Matosinhos) to Vila do Conde: hot, but good
Day 25 – Vila do Conde to Rates: longer and hotter than planned
Day 29 – Estrada to Viana do Castelo: Shortish walk, full-on day
Day 36 – O Porriño to Redondela: we had to work for the views
