Walking the Caminho Português, 2026

The various Camino routes through Spain make for splendid walking, either doing sections at a time or taking on entire trails. My wife and I completed the Camino Francés three years ago, and completed the staffwork by continuing that walk to Finisterre and Muxía. The Portuguese Camino is another notable route, and the pages below form the description of our travels along it between August and October 2026.

Day 1 – it begins: Lisbon to Santa Iria de Azoia

Day 2 – Santa Iria to Vila Franca de Xira. Another hot one.

Day 3 – Vila Franca de Xira to Azambuja: cool, then hot

Day 4 – Azambuja and Porto Muge: From the ridiculous to the sublime

Day 5 – Walking again: Porto de Muge to Santarém. Tomatoes!
